This Tape Rocks!

This past weekend I ventured up to Aurora, IL to get certified in Fascial Movement Taping, officially making me a Rock Tape “Rock Doc”. I have to say that the class was the best continuing education class I have ever taken. So what’s the big deal?

Rock Tape is a brand of kinesiology tape. Kinesiology taping has been around since the 1970s, but it has grown in popularity recently as Olympians and professional athletes have increased its visibility. If you are watching an athletic event and see some funky colored tape on an athlete…that’s kinesiology tape.

What does it do?

Rock Tape has lots of different uses. It can be used to address pain issue by decompressing tissue allowing for lymph drainage and increased circulation to the injured area. It can be used to reduce swelling and bruising by facilitating this drainage. This can be very beneficial after an injury or surgery.

One of the biggest uses of Rock Tape is to help provide neuromuscular feedback. Through the application of tape, we can help retrain the body to move and function properly. This can help extend the muscular re education that happens in a massage beyond the work on the table. Tape can be used to create awareness of bad patterns in posture and especially helpful in sports performance. By creating better awareness of how the body is moving and correcting dysfunction, the tape can be used to help prevent injury

Rock Tape’s slogan is go stronger longer. The tape is designed to help athletes and others improve their performance. Although it is marketed towards athletes, even weekend warriors and couch potatoes can benefit from taping.

Some examples of things that can be assisted with Rock Tape:

• Achilles tendonitis

• Plantar fasciitis

• Jumpers knee (PFS)

• ACL/MCL issues

• Rotator cuff

• Groin and hamstring pulls

• Lower back issues

• Shin splints

• Tennis and golf elbow

• Pain associated with pregnancy

• Postural correction

I can personally attest to the awesomeness of this tape for pregnancy… I immediately felt relief from lots of the aches and pains I was having as soon as I applied the tape.

In addition to tape applications, I’m also able to perform a movement assessment to figure which taping protocols would work best to improve performance.

This week (6/2-6/6) I will be offering tape applications for $5 per trouble area. Once I receive the rest of my tape, the price will go up to $10 per session. I will also have tape available for purchase at a price of $30/roll. This will include all of the applications for the life of the roll. You can either take the tape home with you or leave it at the clinic.
